Leading Solar Installers in Cornwall

Solar Panel Installation Truro

Cornwall gets the best solar resource in the UK. That's not marketing, it's Met Office data. Truro and the surrounding towns have a different building stock to Devon: more granite, more slate, different roof pitches. We've done plenty of installs across Cornwall and we know what works on Cornish properties.

Solar in Cornwall: The UK's Best Location for It

1,600+ hours of sunshine, mild year-round temperatures, and panels that just work harder here than anywhere else in the country.

Best Solar Yield in the UK

Cornwall gets 1,600+ hours of sun a year. A 4kW system here will generate 10-15% more annually than the same system in the Midlands. The numbers just work better.

Slate Roofs? No Problem

Cornish roofs are most often slate. We use fixings designed for slate roofs that don't require drilling through the slate. They hook under the slate instead.

Cornwall Council Planning

Most installs are permitted development but Cornwall has a lot of AONB, World Heritage mining sites, and conservation areas. We know which ones need applications and what Cornwall Council will accept.

Grid Outages Are Real Here

Cornwall's grid is more vulnerable than Devon's. Storms knock out supply regularly in exposed areas. A battery with backup keeps your heating and fridge running when the power goes out.

Holiday Lets & Tourism Businesses

If you run a holiday let or B&B, solar cuts your overheads and guests increasingly expect it. We've installed on several Cornish holiday properties, and the payback is often faster because usage is high in summer when generation peaks.

Coastal-Rated Systems

All mounting systems use marine-grade stainless steel and aluminium as standard across the industry. Where it really matters for coastal properties is the battery and inverter. We specify the Anker SOLIX X1 for coastal installs: corrosion level 5 (the highest available) and IP67 rated, compared to level 4 and IP65-66 on most alternatives.

What Devon Customers Say

Join hundreds of satisfied customers across the South West who've transformed their energy independence

“We recently had a solar panel system, EV charger and battery fitted by Yarmer renewables. Matt, Char and team were amazing and installed the system quickly and with great care (despite the horrendous weather). The quality of the installation has really impressed us, while the advice and information throughout the process has been excellent. We're loving our new system!”
George
“From multiple quotes and pitches from solar providers, Matt at Yarmer Renewables delivered something refreshingly rare: a system built from product knowledge and from listening to what we wanted. The installation went incredibly smoothly and was professionalism from start to finish. It was a pleasure to have them on site.”
Laura
“I've just completed the 'who do I get to fit the solar?' puzzle with the maze of choices and deals out there. Matt from Yarmer Renewables was an accidental contact but it has been a happy accident! Although I initially had some reservations about using a smaller installer I would now unreservedly recommend them. Everything has been well designed and is bespoke to this house.”

Cornwall Solar Installation FAQs

A 4kW domestic system runs about £5,000-£6,500 installed. Bigger systems (6-8kW) are £7,000-£10,000. Cornwall's better yield means faster payback than most of the UK. We can show you the projected numbers for your specific property.

Usually yes, but it may need a planning application. The key is using all-black panels (no silver frames), low-profile mounting, and positioning that isn't visible from public roads. We've had installs approved in AONB areas by getting the aesthetics right.

The panels are sealed glass and aluminium, so salt doesn't affect them. All mounting systems across the industry use marine-grade stainless steel and aluminium as standard. The real differentiator for coastal properties is the battery and inverter choice. We specify the Anker SOLIX X1 for coastal installs, which has corrosion level 5 (the highest available) and an IP67 rating, compared to level 4 and IP65-66 on most alternatives.

Not at all. Slate roofs just need a different fixing method: hooks that slide under the slates rather than drilling through. We've done loads of slate roofs across Cornwall. Takes slightly longer to install but works perfectly.

Cornwall winters are mild (panels like cool temperatures) and you still get decent generation October-March. For storms, the panels are rated for extreme wind loads and properly fixed. In 5+ years of Cornwall installs we haven't had a panel come off.

Cornwall's solar yield is 10-15% better than the national average, so payback is typically 5-7 years on panels. Add a battery with smart tariff and it can come down further. After that, it's free electricity for 20+ years.
