Not at all. Slate roofs just need a different fixing method: hooks that slide under the slates rather than drilling through. We've done loads of slate roofs across Cornwall. Takes slightly longer to install but works perfectly.
Cornwall winters are mild (panels like cool temperatures) and you still get decent generation October-March. For storms, the panels are rated for extreme wind loads and properly fixed. In 5+ years of Cornwall installs we haven't had a panel come off.
